Key concepts to help you choose the right cover
OD cover protects your vehicle against loss or damage due to accidents, theft, fire, natural calamities (flood, earthquake, storm), riots, and malicious acts.
Premium factors: IDV (Insured Declared Value), vehicle age, engine capacity (CC), zone (A/B), make/model, and NCB (No Claim Bonus).
Key add-ons: Nil Depreciation (full parts coverage without depreciation deduction), Consumables (nuts, bolts, oils), Return to Invoice (invoice value in total loss), Engine Protection, NCB Protection.
TP cover is mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act. It covers legal liability for injury/death to third parties and damage to third-party property.
Premium factors: Vehicle type, engine capacity (CC) or GVW/passenger capacity for commercial vehicles. Rates are fixed by IRDAI and don't vary by insurer.
Long-term TP: New vehicles require 3-year TP (cars) or 5-year TP (two-wheelers) as per IRDAI mandate.
IDV is the maximum sum insured — the current market value of your vehicle. It's the basis for OD premium calculation.
Calculation: Manufacturer's listed price minus depreciation based on vehicle age.
NCB is a discount on OD premium for claim-free years. It accumulates annually and can significantly reduce your premium.
NCB Slabs:
NCB belongs to the policyholder and can be transferred when switching insurers or vehicles.
India is divided into two insurance zones for premium calculation:
Zone A (Metros): Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad — Higher premiums due to higher traffic density, theft rates, and repair costs.
Zone B (Rest of India): All other cities and towns — Lower premiums.
Our calculator auto-detects your zone based on the city you enter.
